My art is a deeply personal response to existence. My main interest is in capturing a mood while exploring the complexities and subtleties of human emotions.
I am fascinated by Mankind’s resilience and struggle to survive. I often use the theme of Motherhood to portray that resilience. Having not had the advantage of growing up with my mother I am interested in exploring the reciprocity of motherhood. My concern is less the institution of motherhood than the experience, both from the point of view of the child and the mother.
I celebrate women in my work, especially the Caribbean woman.
In life as in art, I believe in cultivating balance and equanimity through our ups and downs, hence I always feel compelled to balance the angst by exploring the brighter side of life and creating beauty in opposition to the harrowing realities we face each day.
It is a privilege for me to celebrate the various cultures that contributed to my diverse spirit, that of Haiti where I was born, Belgium where I was schooled and the Bahamas now my home.
